Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has condemned the use of laser pointers by Moroccan fans during Nigeria’s 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final victory. In a post-match press conference, Madugu revealed that the lasers were directed not only at the players but also at him on the sidelines.

He emphasized that despite these distractions, the team remained focused and prepared for such challenges. Madugu called for improvements in future tournaments to prevent such incidents. The final, which ended with Nigeria lifting the trophy, was marred by controversial refereeing decisions.Referee Antsino Twanyanyukwa awarded Nigeria a penalty after a VAR review, which Esther Okonkwo converted to spark the Falcons’ comeback.However, Twanyanyukwa denied Morocco a late penalty after another VAR check in the final 10 minutes, infuriating the home supporters.

Despite the challenges, Coach Madugu expressed hope for a better atmosphere in future editions of the tournament. He refrained from directly criticizing the officiating but acknowledged the impact of the decisions on the match.
