The MBA admission process through CAT (Common Admission Test) is one of the most popular pathways for students in India who want to pursue management education, especially in top institutes like the IIMs (Indian Institutes of Management).

The first step in the process is registering for the CAT exam. The application form is usually released around August, and candidates must fill in their academic details, personal information, and preferred test centers. After submitting the form and paying the fee, candidates receive an admit card before the exam, which is generally conducted in November.

This stage includes Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), and Personal Interview (PI). Some institutes may skip GD and directly conduct WAT and PI. In WAT, candidates write short essays on current topics, while GD assesses communication and teamwork skills. The PI is the most important stage, where candidates are evaluated on their personality, knowledge, confidence, and career goals.

After completing all rounds, institutes prepare a final merit list. This list is based on a composite score that includes CAT percentile, performance in WAT/GD/PI, academic background, and work experience. Candidates who make it to the final list receive admission offers.
