Starting with a thrilling match between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT), the IPL 2025 season got off. Excitement, big hits, and a fantastic team exhibition abounded in the game. Follow 1xbat for more cricket news.

When Shashank Singh revealed how his captain, Shreyas Iyer, put the team's success before his milestone, one of the most heartwarming events occurred.

Shashank's Explosive Final Over Batting

Shashank Singh had faced only ten balls as he came to bat. Shreyas Iyer was at the other end, just three runs away from his first IPL century (100 runs) and had already hit nine sixes.

Shashank considered he should strike a single to let Shreyas finish his hundred with one over left in PBKS' innings. Shreyas advised him, surprisingly, not to worry about his hundred and to go for huge shots!

A Decision Made by a Selfless Captain

Later on, Shashank recalled, "I was going to ask Shreyas if I should take a single, but he came to me and said, 'Don't worry about my hundred, just go for boundaries.'"

This revealed Shreyas's unassuming selflessness. Though he realized that reaching a century in the IPL was not easy, he put the team first.

This inspired Shashank to be very aggressive! In the last over, he struck five fours, scoring 23 runs. Punjab Kings finished with a shockingly 243 for 5.

An Exceptional Cooperation

In an explosive partnership, Shreyas and Shashank added 81 runs off just 28 balls. This let PBKS score 77 runs in the last four overs.

Shreyas concluded with an amazing 97 runs off 42 balls, even though he faced just four balls in the last three overs. Conversely, Shashank struck an amazing knock of 44 off just 16 balls.

Shashank said following the game, "Shreyas is the same person I have known for 15 years. He advised me to keep cool and play from natural flow. That inspired a great deal of confidence."

GT's Big Chase and Magical Bowling by Vyshak

Gujarat Titans had the second-highest chase in IPL history** as PBKS set a huge goal of 244 runs.

  • Sai Sudharsan (74 off 41 balls) played brilliantly.

  • Jos Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford also hit big shots.

  • GT kept the chase alive with 87 runs between the 9th and 14th overs.

But then, with his exceptional bowling, PBKS's Impact Player Vijaykumar Vyshak changed the game.

Vyshak's Game-Changing Spell

When GT was looking strong, Vyshak bowled with great accuracy.

  • In his first two overs, he handed out just 10 runs.

  • He bowled 10 dot balls (balls devoid of runs).

  • PBKS bowled three overs without producing a boundary!

This slow-down broke GT's momentum, and they were unable to bounce back. At last, PBKS won by 11 runs.

Shashank Praises Shreyas and Vyshak

Saying "Shreyas is one of the best captains in the world," Shashank had great compliments for his captain following the game.

"Based on instinct, he makes decisions; he gets Vyshak at the correct moment. Vyshak carried out the strategy just as it should have!"

Perfect yorkers and control in tough conditions enabled PBKS to seal the victory.
