Three betting companies owned by William Hill are to pay penalties of ₤ 19.2 m for stopping working to protect customers and weak anti-money laundering controls.

The record penalty comes after the Gambling Commission discovered brand-new consumers were able to bet large amounts over brief periods without proper checks.
